His Majesty The King recovering rapidly His Majesty The King is free of fever but will need a lot of rest to recover completly. "His Majesty The King's general condition is good," said a statement from the Bureau of the Royal Household after markets had closed. "However, a further period of recovery of lung pneumonia is necessary, as in the case of the elderly." King Bhumibol, 81, has been in hospital since September 19, making this his longest period of treatment since suffering a blood clot in 2007. The statement said he would stay in hospital for "continuous rehabilitation therapies," the first suggestion he could remain in hospital for some time. Over the past few weeks many Thais have gathered at Siriraj Hospital where he is being treated to sign get-well books for the king or lay garlands in front of a monument of Prince Mahidol of Songkla, the king's father, to pray for a speedy recovery. |

Train derails, 7 dead, many hurt A passenger train derailed in Thailand early Monday killing seven people and injuring scores of others, police said. A passenger train derailed in Thailand early Monday killing four people and injuring scores of others, officials said. The overnight train, traveling from southern Trang province to Bangkok, came off the tracks 13 kilometres (eight miles) south of the coastal resort town of Hua Hin, they told AFP. "From the information we have now, seven were found dead at the scene. They were all Thais. Forty-five people were sent for treatment at two nearby hospitals," said Police Colonel Krisna Jamsaweng, chief of Hua Hin's police station. He said they were investigating the cause of the incident, which happened at about 4:50 am . Channel 7 reported that more than 100 people were injured. Six of the train's carriages derailed in the incident, which has led to the temporary suspension of rail services in the South of Thailand, a railway official told AFP. "We hope we can clear the tracks as soon as possible and we expect the service to resume tomorrow. We are transporting several hundreds (of) passengers from four trains, including the one in the accident, to Bangkok," she added. |

Thailand ready for Asean Summit Writer: BangkokPost.com Published: 9/09/2009 at 04:42 PM Arrangements are complete for the hosting of the Asean Summit and leaders of all 10 member countries and six non-Asean countries have confirmed they will attend, permanent secretary for foreign affairs Virasak Futrakul said on Wednesday. The summit will be held at Cha-am, Phetchaburi province, and nearby Hua Hin, in adjoining Prachuap Khiri Khan province, from Oct 23 to 25. China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India will attend the summit with Asean's 10 member-states. Mr Virasak said Asean permanent secretaries for foreign affairs will meet from Oct 6 to 8 to finalise preparations. The Asean Summit was initially convened in Pattaya in mid April this year, but it was cancelled amid chaos and violent protests by the red shirts of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship. The summit was then re-scheduled for Oct 23-25 in Phuket, but the venue was later shifted to Cha-am and Hua Hin since Phuket will host the annual vegetarian festival at that time. The government has said the Internal Security Act will be enforced around the summit venues. |

EVASON HUA HIN – SIX SENSES SPA GranMonte Winemaker Dinner – August 28 – 6:30 PM The Great Growths of Bordeaux, the maze of tiny plots of vines of Burgundy and the multitude of boutique and artisan producers all over this world, all have rarity to thank for the mystique and, of course, price that go with them. Some rare finds have this mystique but are priceless and we think we have one joining us at Evason Resort Hua Hin and Six Senses Hideaway Resort Hua Hin : Nikki Visootha Lohitnavy. Not only special for her talents as a winemaker but also for the situation she now finds herself in as Thailand’s first ever overseas educated and trained female oenologist when she graduated last year from the famous Adelaide University in the heart of Australia’s wineland. As winemaker of any winery there is a great deal of pressure, yet when the winery is owned by your father the pressure just keeps on building. With her father being Visooth Lohitnavy, who as both CEO of GranMonte and President of the Thai Wine Association could pose real problems when trying to impress, Nikki, however, can rest easy. Her wines are superb and a real testament to both generations’ efforts. Friday 28th August 2009 - Kieng Sah - THB 1999 ++ per person Seats are limited so book early. Call : Evason Hua Hin Resort & Six Senses Spa 9, Moo 3, Paknampran Beach, Pranburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, 77220 Thailand Tel: +66 (0)32 632 111 ext 8556 Fax: +66 (0)32 570218 |
