ICT prepared for catastrophe and communication problems
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology or ICT together with the Local Administrative Organization Huay Sat Yai made preparations to cope with any impending catastrophe and communication system errors in order to rescue people when the catastrophe occurs.
Mr. Worrapat Tiwtanom, Deputy-under Secretary of ITC in association with Mr. Eaktana Limseri, President of Local Administrative Organization Baan-Huay Sat Yai, Hua Hin Prachuab Kirikhan set up a simulation rescue attempt for the residents and visitors in the most high risk areas that could be affected by flooding from heavy rain and water over flowing from the mountains. In the worst case scenario, residents and visitors could be trapped in the affected areas and not able to escape. Communication channels might be cut and people could be severely injured and even die.
Therefore the rescue rehearsal was conducted to prepare for this kind of incident. The pattern of the rehearsal was that in case the catastrophe occurs, the village leader would be informed to come to base and he will contact and call for help from the concerned sectors such as rescue association, foundations staff and the police using the walkie-talkies. The agencies contacted will immediately come to rescue the people in the areas. The practice was successfully conducted and it was recorded in video form in order to present to the government.
Mr. Eaktana said that Tambol Huay Sat Yai was the area under the project of HM the King. The commune consisted of 11 villages (951 families) and the residents, 5,922 residents-both men and women. Every year, the area will be affected by the natural disasters especially from flooding and extremely cold weather. Therefore such rehearsal plan had to be conducted and recorded.
