In the event of a Storm SurgeThe Hua Hin municipality discusses safety procedures

The Hua Hin mayor called a meeting with the relevant sections and commissions to find solutions should a natural disaster such as a Storm Surge strike .

According to a recent government announcement concerning possible Storm Surges during October and November, Mr. Jira Pongphaiboon, Hua Hin mayor, and deputies, the Meteorological Department, the Department of Highway, the 15th,Infantry unit and the  Police Airborne Reinforce Division - Naresuan Camp, Provincial Police, Hotel Entrepreneurs and Hua Hin Aid Foundation discussed the possibilities in order to prevent disaster resulting from a Storm Surge in case a rain storm from the South China Sea through the  Gulf of Thailand would hit coastal areas with wind speeds of more than 100 kilometers an hour.

Any effects of rain storms from the South China Sea – Gulf of Thailand during October and November, the Hua Hin municipality has found solutions to help the residents by setting up headquarters at  the Hua Hin municipality and prepare first- aid officers.

Khao Noi Temple , Aitisukato Temple located in Khoa Dan and Khao Hin Lek Fai will be refugee camps.

For Khao Takieb, Hua Dorn area, the lowest area where water flow could come from Hua Hin town, the refugee camp will be installed at Khao Klailas mountain, Khao Pak-Ar.

Inflatable boats will be made available and ready to be used to transport victims.

We have warning tower located on the beach next to the Sofitel Centara Grand Hua Hin. The tower can signal if Tsunami or Storm Surge occurs in the Gulf of Thailand.  The siren signal can give warning 1 or 2 hours before such a surge would hit the coast.” Said Mr. Jira.

Besides, the Meteorological Department will send a daily weather forecast reporting the state of rain, rain storm, wind speed etc. to residents and tourists. Hua Hin municipality will arrange to keep everybody informed continuously with forecasts.

Every year Hua Hin is flooded in some areas. In case of a Storm Surge, we are better prepared to react preventively if it happens.
