Increased budget to support the rising elderly population of Hua Hin
Hua Hin Mayor and the administrative members of Hua Hin Municipality plan to support the rise in the elderly population of Hua Hin in the coming year. So far 1,200 out of 5,000 have been helped with monthly allowances. In 2009, more elderly in need of support will be helped.
Mr. Jira Pongphaiboon, Hua Hin Mayor said that the number of elderly in Hua Hin both men and women from all 35 communities is now more than 5,000. However, the municipality has been able to support only 1,200 of them with the allowance of 500 baht per month, given to them every three months. Later the municipality learned that the elderly need the allowance for their monthly expense and therefore the mayor will organize the staff to pay them monthly instead.
Support for the elderly will be considered based on certain conditions such as being 60 years of age and above, impoverished and not being supported by descendants or relatives, handicapped, homeless or other conditions suited to the committees’ consideration.
Mr. Jira also said that he would try and help the elderly of all the 35 communities without any injustice. The elderly who are in need of support can contact Mr. Jira or the administrative members who will be glad to help them.
In the year 2009, which is the new fiscal year, the mayor will allocate the budget of Hua Hin Municipality and will ask for extra funds from the Ministry of Interior in order to help support the elderly population of Hua Hin. The mayor expects to help hundreds more.
