'Kin Laek' Restaurant, Southern and Northeastern Cuisines

Mr. Sasaporn Matrwiratna (Khun Torm), the owner of Kin Laek restaurant located in Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khirikhan province, revealed the Kin Laek restaurant was officially opened on Jan. 11, 2003.

The first meals served were real Thai southern dishes with a hot and spicy flavor as seasoned by the southerners, such as Sator Song Khuang or spicy stir-fried (meat) with stink beams, Plakapong Yam Takrai or Snapper spicy salad with sliced lemongrass, Kaeng Tai Pla or Fish's belly curry, Khua Kling or Spicy dried curry, Tom Yam Taley or Spicy seafood soup and so on. Each of the dishes was so authentic it was as if all the Thai southern kitchens had moved to "Kin Laek" restaurant.

Every week day and during the weekend, a number of famous customers from Bangkok such as celebrities, businessmen, police officers, soldiers, including some ministers (from the south) visit the restaurant in groups for their lunch or dinner. These customers all agree that the food is superb, well-seasoned and the price is more reasonable than others as well.

"Until the present day of running the Kin Laek restaurant, the day that I am most proud of is Jan. 7 2006 when HRH. Sirindhorn personally had lunch here and ordered food for 30 persons. The food ordered by HRH. Sirindhorn was Somtaam Puma or Papaya spicy salad with blue crab, Plakapong Yam Takrai or Snapper spicy salad with sliced lemongrass, Khaibaan Khua Kling or Spicy dried curry with chicken meat, Plakapong Tod Naampla or Deep fried snapper dipped in fish sauce and Tom Yaam Khung Ruammit or Spicy prawn soup with various kinds of meat.

These aforementioned side dishes were served with fresh vegetables and freshly cooked rice. After HRH. Sinrindhorn finished her meal, HRH. said she had ordered food from here on many occasions but this was the first time that HRH. visited in person and she met me on behalf of the owner. Then, HRH asked for my telephone number and paid 5,800 Baht for food and a 200 Baht tip, totaling 6,000 Baht.HRH. also gave an unforgettable opportunity to take a photo of us at HRH.'s table which was the proudest moment of my life" said Mr. Sasaporn.

Mr. Sasaporn also added the name "Kin Laek" restaurant was created by himself and his employees in the hope of creating a good restaurant with reasonable prices for visitors. Now the restaurant is so well-known among tourists that many say that "you won't have visited Hua Hin until you have visited Kin Laek restaurant".

The year 2008 is regarded as the beginning of the new government's establishment. The overall image of the national economy seems to be so gloomy with people having less income, making it difficult to survive.

Therefore, Kin Laek restaurant must adjust and apply the menu accordingly to be appropriate for customers during economic hardship by putting Isan or Northeastern food on the menu, such as Som Taam Pu - Plara or Papaya spicy salad with salted small crab and pickled fish, Larb - Koi or spicy minced meat salad, Tom Saab Khuangnai or offal spicy clear soup, Khai Thod or Deep fried chicken, Nua Yang or Grilled beef, Sua Soka or Spicy meat salad, Yaam Neow Naang or Chickens' feet spicy salad etc, served with different kinds of fresh vegetables and freshly cooked sticky rice.

These kinds of local Isan dishes will be served from noon until the evening, accompanied by local southern dishes and seafood, so you can choose your own tasty dishes with excitement. Reserve your place in advance; please call 089-4456645 anytime.
