Occupation College provides earnings for local residents
On 7 July 2006, according to Education Law, Occupation College of Wang Klai Kangwon was transferred under the control of Vocational Committee Office. Later the college changed its name to Occupation College Wang Klai Kangwon Campus.
Mr Surasak Srinoi, the director of the college, stated that His Majesty the King aims to provide short courses for unfortunate people in Prachuab Khirikhan so they will have skills to earn a living. Therefore, His Majesty formed a school which provided short courses to people.
The purposes of the college are 1) to provide skill courses at the level of Vocational and High Vocational school for high school students, 2) to provide short courses for people to earn their living with skills they learn, 3) to provide occupational skills according to Royal Patronage Projects, 4) to serve the local community as an information centre, and 5) to provide education through the long distance learning project via satellite.
Vocational school schemes provide courses and certificates for 1) motor engineering, 2) electrical engineering, 3) electronic engineering, 4) welding work, and 5) business administration.
High vocational school schemes provide courses and certificates for 1) business administration majoring in accounting 2) industrial mechanic, and 3) electronics.
Short courses for people comprise of 25 courses such as tailoring, hairdressing, flower making, flower arranging, painting, cooking and baking. The duration of each course can be from 6 hours to 150 hours.
This is the only college that teaches through the satellite system broadcast throughout Thailand and in other countries. The college is sponsored by Long Distance Learning Foundation. Mr Surasak further said that the college also provides teachers to teach occupational skills at the level of vocational and high vocational school at Ananda Village in Huay Sat Yai district. The program aims to encourage local residents with the chance to learn occupational skills to earn their living.
Mr Surasak said that there are about 2,100 students attending vocational and high vocational schools and about 3,400 people who attend short courses these days. At the moment Mr Kwankaew Watcharothai, Deputy Secretary of His Majesty the King, announced that His Majesty the King will provide 27 rais of land in Cha-Am to build new training buildings to provide courses to local residents in Cha-am area.
Private sector contributors can also help. Toyota Motors provided help of B5 million for the mechanic department. SMC Co., Ltd. also donated about B2 million to renovate engineering department.
Hua Hin residents at the present are earning their living because His Majesty the King kindly provides occupational skill training which allows Hua Hin children to enjoy quality educational opportunities.
