Storm Surge Report
Recently experts have warned people living in the coastal provinces that they might be hit by a storm surge, a very frightening natural disaster, that has been a big talk of the town.
A Storm Surge is the severe natural disaster. It has been reported that it may possibly hit some coastal provinces in the Gulf of Thailand, the Meteorological Department declares on the issue.
According to the statistic data in the past 57 years, the storm may move into the north of Gulf of Thailand during September to November with wind speeds less than 100 kilometer per an hour.
In Burma, the storm hit the Gulf of Bengal with highest wind-speeds because of the high-humidity contained in the winds. But a storm in the Gulf of Thailand is generated from low humidity which essentially allows wind speeds lower than 100 kilometers per an hour.
The data also indicates that a Storm Surge mostly occurs with higher wind speed than 100 kilometers per an hour.
Burma’s geography is wide and open for high wind speeds. But in the Gulf of Thailand, the topology is narrow and closed. Strong winds accompanying a storm normally comes from the shore toward the ocean.
The last Storm Surge hit the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand in 1989 in Chumpon province and Typhoon Linda hit Prachuab Kirikhan in 1997 but they were not severe. Meteorological Department believes if a Storm Surge occurred in the areas, it would be not be severe one.
Following to the study of what generates a storm researched by Meteorological Department, there is no fact of a storm surge that may hit the mentioned areas found. However, the Meteorological Department will announce 5 days before if there is a storm surge approaching.
