The “4 Emperors” amulet
It was Victor’s personal efforts and funds that enabled this very special and meaningful amulet to be commissioned. 4,444 pieces were produced, each with a diameter of 4.4 cm using 44 sacred and vital substances, including chinaware, marble and incense plus other poundable material from the hotel.
Khun Victor drew inspiration from his concept of the 4 D’s, “Look Good”, “Know Good”, “Think Good Thoughts” and “Speak Good Words”, which he instils in his employees while telling them how fortunate they are to work in Dusit, a name that in Thai means Heaven.
The “4 Emperors” amulet was a result of painstaking research and planning to combine many aspects of Thai cultural beliefs into the design. Based on the Dusit logo, it is worth noting that the letter “D” pronounced “Dee” has a profound significance in Thai language, meaning “Good”. The logo is also representative of the number 4 and the name Dusit was taken from the mythical 4th level of Heaven in the Hindu and Buddhist legend.
One side of the amulet displays the 4 best known and respected Thai emperors, Por-kuhn Ramkhamhaeng the Great, Somdej Phra Naresuan the Great, Somdej Phrachao Targsin the Great and Somdej Phra Piya the Great, better known as King Rama V. These great emperors are set against the background of the Dusit Thani building in Bangkok. On the other side of the amulet is the likeness of Thailand’s most revered monk, Somdej Phra Buddhajarn Toh, set prominently with the 4 D’s mantra in the background. Once made, the amulets were blesses on 4 separate occations, the first being on the 4th of November 2007.
The dedicated deliberation and heartfelt sentiment that went into the concept, design, meticulous selection of Materials, plus subsequent blessings are an expression of the love that Khun Victor has for his staff, the organization that he works for and all that are fortunate enough to receive one of these rare and unique amulets.
