Inspiration from Denmark’s Artist

Last month Khun Caranee, the owner of Nern Chalet organized an oil-paint teaching course by the Denmark’ artist, Karin Faaborg whose passion is abstract impression painting and inspirations that come from her nearest surroundings and also from her journeys, especially to Thailand where she keeps returning to again and again. Karin Faaborg currently lives in Denmark and visits Thailand several times a year due to her favourite destination for her inspiration in painting.

I was able to have a quick chat with when visited her oil-painting course. She friendly told me the following :

“My paintings are my little babies. I care for them, and I most of the time I have some difficulties letting them go although it is very important for me to arrange exhibitions and find an audience for my paintings in order to move on with my work.

Important for me is, that I keep some of my own paintings. I always give my paintings a title, when I have finished them. It is good for me to remember each painting, although it can be difficult after more than 500 paintings. My paintings are spread in several countries; most of them are in Denmark. I think it is a good thing, that some of my paintings come to Thailand, from where a larger part of my inspiration still is coming from.
I started to paint in the naturalistic way back in Greenland, Denmark and Thailand.

Step by step I searched for a more abstract way of painting.  I love to let go and love to express myself without the control that naturalistic work demands. My paintings are mostly painted with oil, some are mixed media. I paint with a brush, but also work with a spatula. I always work very spontaneously; I start with a stroke of the brush or directly with the spatula on the canvas.

I work on many layers, oil on oil and some times there is a note, it might be from a newspaper, a text, a picture something that inspires me, and it will influence further work on the canvas. When the painting is finished, the note has maybe totally disappeared, but in the process it had influenced the result. Sometimes I also use a layer in form of lacquer.

The lacquer does not cover completely, but let some of the notes or motives show through. Many thoughts and many pictures pass through my head while I am working on my painting. It is just so amazing to me, when all these things come to me and I love to give it an expression on the canvas. When I am painting, I always listen different kinds to music which also influences my work. Sometimes I have a special feeling.

“My style is per definition abstract expressionism, but the definition is not always covering. Sometimes there is a motif in the abstraction; the motif appears just like an impressionistic painted picture as a part of the abstraction. It might be very difficult to explain what” story” my paintings tell, it always depends on who is looking at it. I will try to give a part of my “story” to the paintings that I exhibit at Nern Chalet.              It is always important to know, that my “story” does not have to be your story, when you are looking at the same painting.” said Karin Faaborg

Lipta, Thailand’s R&B dual singers visited Hua Hin
Last month COOL 93 Fahrenheit from Bangkok recently had organized a cool outing activity for their clients from AIA, the insurance company, at Holiday Inn Resort Regent Beach Cha-Am, several Thai artists joined the activity which was the highlight of this cool-breeze holiday. Plenty of games and live concerts were played.

I had a quick talk with Lipta the two young talented Rhythms & Pop artists of Thailand, whose music was once played through Bangkok FAT Radio before Boyd Kosiyapong, the well-known composer, singer, producer and the owner of the Love Is music company creating plenty of today well-known R&B artists, caught them to walk on the run way of music.

Tharon Liptapanlop or Tan, 19, whose roles are keyboard player and a producer, he is also a nephew of Mr. Suwat Leptapanlop, the former deputy prime ministry who was banned from Thaksin’s abolished government from future political action. Ar-rom Poharnrattanakul or Katto, 23, as a singer, he is friendly and warm talented who has
How did you begin music work? And how did you two meet? “I grew up closely to the sound of music. When I was a little boy, my mother convinced me to play piano and felt in love with it since then. I, then, decided to continue studying music and my family gave me a full support” said Tan

Katto added “When I studied at Thammasart University, I was the singer for the big band called TU band. Spending lots of times on singing contest when schooling, I then continued my study at SAE (School of Audio Engineering),and there, I met Tan.

Asking what they think about Hua Hin? Tan said “Hua Hin….please don’t develop more than now. The more the city expanded, the less chance we can see the city’s charm.  I am afraid of the living close to nature will not be exist in the near future. We are from Bangkok and love coming here as its charm and beauty indulging.  Hua Hin should be kept naturally and beautifully for their dwellers and tourists.

Katto added “And we should preserve environment in this city as much as we can. I always envy Hua Hin residents because there are many things I love about Hua Hin; good food and restaurants, beautiful nature and beaches and so on”
