Thailand snooker cup in Hua Hin

CAT Telecom-SangSom Hua Hin Cup First Ranking Event of the Thailand Professional Circuit at the Hua Hin Grand Hotel, Hua Hin From 01 Apr 2008 To 06 Apr 2008 Hua Hin, April 2.
 
Young Passakorn Suwannawat put on a sterling show late on Tuesday evening to upset defending champion Stuart Pettman, an Englishman spotted at No. 51 in the world professional rankings, 4-1 in the first event of the SangSom Thailand Professional Circuit, the Hua Hin Cup 2008.
 
The event, which is also being sponsored by the Sports Authority of Thailand and CAT Telecom, got underway at the Hua Hin Grand Hotel on Tuesday and Passakorn has been the talk of the town since.
 
Hua Hin snooker cupPassakorn, runner-up at the 2007 IBSF World Championship and one of the future prospects of the country, was in brilliant touch as he roared back after conceding the first frame and then won four on the trot to win his wild card round match against one of the toughest opponents in the game. Pettman was impressive at the same venue last year when he captured the title, beating Thailand's sports star Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm in the final.
 
Ratchapol, a former world No. 3, is himself taking part in the tournament as one of the wild cards and has so far been in great form, scoring victories over Thawat Sujaritthurakarn and Praprut Chaithanasakul to move into the quarter-finals. Liu Song of China, ranked No. 72 in the world, also did well to beat young Chinnakrit Yaowannasiri 4-2 despite as a riveting break of 135 by his Thai opponent.
 
Noppadol Sangnil, who is due to represent Thailand at the next month's Asian Championship in Dubai, also showed class to hammer Chiang Mai veteran Somporn Kunthawung 4-1 and enter the quarter-finals. Noppadol impressed the crowd with a break of 135 points in the third frame. The last 16 round matches continue on Thursday with first game starting at 10 am at the same venue.
