Brilliant Woman, Hua Hin Native Reveals

Finding a working woman these days is quite a challenge, because all challenging work is done by men such as businesses, politics, and the government and so on. A woman is only regarded as "a follower", but now we have found a "brilliant woman" who is a native of Hua Hin and in charge of the representative of Thailand working with EU Ambassador. Now she is acknowledged among The Delegation of the Euro Commission.

Ms. Thanawan Klamklaochit, 29, a media & information officer of the bureau of Delegation of the Euro Commission to Thailand, Bangkok, revealed she was born in Hua Hin with her parents; Mr. Phaisan & Mrs. Chomchai Klamklaochit, the Phananchai Hotel owners.

She began her first nine years of her education in Anuban Dharun Suksa School, after her graduation, she continued her education (1st yr. - 3rd yr. of lower secondary level) at Watthana Vitthayalai School in Bangkok and she was also a Thai - American Exchange Student staying in the US for one year and came back to Thailand to complete the rest of the 2 years in Triam Udom School. Finally, she completed her 4-year education in Chulalongkorn University in the Faculty of Political Science, department of International Relations and graduated in 1999.

After her graduation, she worked as a news reporter for Asahi Shimbun Newspaper in Thailand; she was in charge of reporting news on Thai - Japanese and Asian relations, especially on the political and economic situation for a year and a half. Then, she decided to take a test for a position at The Delegation of the Euro Commission (EU), with her attempt, she could qualify in 1st place with approx. 200,000 baht of salary.

She has been responsible for secretarial jobs concerning politics and government in Thailand and the Asian group. She has been working right here for 5 years and also completing a Masters degree in the Faculty of International Relations at Thammasart University at the same time.

She also added working in this position required a lot of information on politics, agricultural trades, industries and also the quality of residue in crops, marine animals, sugar, and GSP (Generalized System of Preferences) as well as trade disputation.

With this duty, she must take care of the information system of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. In addition, the bureau of EU in Bangkok is also the representative who provides useful information for 27 member countries in EU group to carry on relation's affairs. The Headquarter of the EU is located in Brussels, in Belgium in which she must attend a meeting to conclude problems and to report to each ambassador from different countries.

In addition, the key responsibility of the EU in Bangkok is to seek for cooperation in bilateralness, regional cooperation projects of Asian Group with the EU or even Asian cooperation with countries in Asia. Thailand has also taken part in these bilateral contracts, especially in researching projects, political development, agriculture, public health, education etc.

"Being a woman and a Hua Hin native and taking responsibility in the position I am in is something I am proud because I can take part in building a good international relationship between Thailand and the EU Group. When Thailand has any troubles, no matter whether it is in trading, economy, politics and so on, I will be the Thai representative who explains reasons and makes each country understand all the details.

I am regarded as a representative who promotes the image of Thailand and makes the points clear especially on the Act of aliens" said Ms. Thanawan.

Ms. Thanawan added in August 6th case, she and 2 of the delegations of the Euro Commission met Election Commission (EC) to explain the case of electoral observer by the EU in Thailand at the end of this year. The case was just to exchange information to each side to understand the gist and the EC will convey all the facts to Thailand again.

In the case the EU would settle 200 examiners with a 200 MB. budget to verify the general election of Thailand at the end of this year but she insisted that it was just a rumor because EU hasn't finalized all the details yet, it was just a prediction or mouth-to mouth story which hasn't been allocated at all. If it was granted, the EU had to talk with the EC in greater detail, but she just talked with the EC about general topics on that day.

The EU used to observe Cambodian and Indonesian general elections by approaching as "observers". Then the EU collected the data to be reported to the delegation on what the observers had seen on Election Day. Anyway, the EU would never judge whether the election was positive or negative. She believed that if Thailand allowed the EU to observe the election, it would be more beneficial to the country.
