Yoga instructor
Last month we briefly talked about yoga and where it is available in Hua Hin. Hopefully many of our readers did get some chance to try it out. Yoga still remains a health tool and it can be discussed about endlessly. This month, I had a chance to talk with an interesting Yoga instructor which many of you may known already. Josephine Ong from Shantih Shala Yoga School in Hua Hin.
Josephine Ong has been a yoga practitioner and instructor for almost 10 years. Josephine is an internationally certified Yoga Instructor by the Yoga Alliance, the American based international organization for Yoga training standardization. Josephine also holds an International Diploma in Ashtanga Yoga from the Sivananda Vedante (institute) Training Academy of Chennai, India and is a qualified Yin Yoga Teacher. Apart from Yoga and meditation, she is also a certified Reiki Healer.
Josephine has also been teaching Yoga at the Putahracsa Resort for a while. She recently went to Bali for a one month intensive course of Yoga Art of Philosophy and Anatomy physiology.
What did you learn from the one month intensive course?
“Yoga is not about postures, but there is so much more about internal and mind control. I would say Yoga enhances your well being, help balance and supports your joints. Yoga is very powerful.
“I mainly learned more about myself and how to approach different students with different needs much more effectively especially with a student having a physical problem.”
How do you teach at your class?
“I do whatever possible, try to personalize customize yoga classes for an individual
In my class, I teach my students to do it step by step. I prefer to keep the class small, so that I will have time to teach individually.”
Can Yoga reduce physical pain?
“Yoga is definitely a therapeutic or holistic approach meaning that you will get a result in the long run. For people having physical conditions, of course they can do yoga. But some postures are needed to be modified to suit their physical conditions. Many of my students have back pain or joints problems which is treatable. Yoga is for general health and I highly recommend it for everyone.” said Josephine
The Yoga classes at Putahracsa start from 9 am to 10.30 am Monday to Wednesday. The Vinyasa Flow is a more challenging class. Although the practice can be modified to suit all levels, previous yoga experience would be ideal; it is scheduled on every Monday.
Yin Yang Flow, suitable for all levels, beginner-friendly, it works on strengthening bones, joints and ligaments with a therapeutic and meditative approach. It is scheduled every Tuesday. Hatha Yoga, suitable for all levels; beginner-friendly, it is scheduled every Wednesday.
In the near future, everybody can experience the upcoming wellness program at Putahracsa, Yoga, Meditation, Healing and Holistic Workshops. A private yoga class is available upon request.
