Government sectors to practice earthquake protection
In case of a disaster, each District Chief Officer, the Mayors, the Head of Dhanarat Military Camp, Rescue Foundation and other concerning sectors must rush to the scene to assist injured people and make a report to the Provincial Governor as soon as possible.
For the districts located close to the sea; Hua Hin, Pranburi, Muang, and Bangsaphan Districts, where plenty of overseas tourists visit, there must be a siren warning in case of tidal waves and the concerning persons have to evacuate the people to other places or higher land by helicopters, speed boats, cars and so on and all casualties must be hospitalized as soon as possible.
The practice was imitated from real disaster situations in America and European countries. The practice was performed in Pranburi Dam based on a potential huge Tsunami hitting and capsizing a tourists boat. As soon as the rescue team was informed, the team rapidly rushed to the scene and rescued the tourist by a speed boat and a helicopter under the direction and order of the District Chief Officer.
The practice lasted 5 hours, it appeared that everything was performed as planned and concerning persons were now prepared in case of a real disaster.
Mr. Anucha revealed to Hua Hin Today that currently earthquakes and other disasters in Thailand must be intensively watched over, because the surrounding countries of Thailand are always confronted with earthquakes under the ocean such as Myanmar, Indonesia, Japan and so on.
Furthermore, in the case of 7 - 10 Richter - earthquake, it will be regarded as "Tsunami" the same as the events in the southern provinces of Thailand. Therefore the Government and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation should assign Provincial Governors in other provinces to practice the protection plan for prevention of disasters.
He added "All the overseas tourists, who are staying in accommodation; rental houses, condominiums and hotels, can trust the security warning system for Tsunamis in the Thai Gulf, Vietnamese Gulf, Chinese and Japanese seas. The warning center in Bangkok will receive the disaster report via satellite within 1 minute and radio to the receiver located in front of Sofitel Hotel to warn the local government immediately.
As soon as the government sectors, rescue team and other concerning sections are informed, they will evacuate tourists from hotels and beaches to other higher places immediately.
The provincial practice was completely satisfied because of readiness in ordering and assisting. Thus, the Department and the Government will apply this to other provinces located close to the sea and even in Bangkok.
